Operational review continued Group capabilities

Power Transmission & Distribution

Capabilities OCU Group brings together complementary capabilities to transform energy and utilities infrastructure. In the UK, this includes a distinctive, industry‑leading Power Transmission & Distribution offering spanning LV to EHV across overhead lines, underground cables and substations, delivered at nationwide scale. Across the UK and Australia and New Zealand, our market‑led model combines local knowledge and accountability with international scale, shared operating standards and access to specialist resources. Our capabilities extend across the infrastructure lifecycle, from feasibility, planning and design through construction, commissioning, maintenance and asset renewal. This allows clients to engage OCU for an individual specialist service or as an integrated delivery partner, providing greater control across complex projects and programs. The Group’s expertise is organised across four complementary market areas: Power Transmission & Distribution, Energy Transformation, Digital Infrastructure, and Water & Environmental. Each addresses distinct infrastructure requirements, but they increasingly intersect as electrification, decarbonisation, digital demand and resilience drive investment. Our operational delivery is underpinned by an in-house digital and data capability that connects people, processes and information across the Group. Together with our engineering, specialist civils, HDD technology, and program delivery expertise, this provides the visibility, consistency, and control required to deliver critical infrastructure safely, efficiently, and at increasing scale.

Overhead lines

Underground cables and long linear routes

Substations and grid infrastructure

We install, refurbish and maintain overhead electricity networks across distribution and

We design and deliver underground cable systems from low voltage to extra-high voltage. Our services include design route planning, trenching, duct and joint-bay installation, cable pulling, jointing, terminations, testing and reinstatement, supporting network reinforcement, new connections and major long‑distance cable programs.

HVDC infrastructure and interconnectors We support the onshore delivery of high‑voltage switchgear, transformers, protection and control panels, cabling and grid integration, supporting network resilience, increased demand requirements, and new connections. We design, construct, procure, install and commission distribution and transmission substations. Our integrated capability covers enabling civils, foundations, electrical infrastructure,

transmission. Our capabilities include route planning, access and foundations, pole and tower installation, conductor works, testing and commissioning, together with inspections, vegetation management, fault restoration and asset renewal.

Grid connections

Control, protection and automation We support the installation and integration of protection, control and automation systems across electricity networks. This includes relay panels, SCADA connections, remote monitoring, testing and compliance verification, helping network operators improve visibility, control and the operational resilience of critical assets. We deliver contestable and non-contestable grid connections for network operators, developers and infrastructure owners. Our accredited capability extends from LV to EHV and includes design, civils, M&E, electrical infrastructure, cabling, protection, testing and commissioning for generation, storage, data centres, transport and industrial assets.

direct current infrastructure, including cable landfalls, long linear cable routes, converter‑station civils, substations and

network integration. These capabilities support interconnectors, offshore wind connections and the wider reinforcement of transmission networks.

Testing, commissioning and energisation

Network maintenance and asset renewal

Our specialist teams provide testing, commissioning and energisation across distribution, transmission and private power networks. Services include commissioning planning, equipment testing, protection verification, compliance assurance, system integration and operational handover, supporting the safe and controlled introduction of new and upgraded assets.

We provide planned and reactive services across operational electricity networks. Our work includes inspections, fault response, repair, refurbishment, asset replacement, network upgrades and end‑of‑life works, supported by regional delivery teams and the Group’s 24-hour operational response capability.
