Energy Transformation

Renewable energy infrastructure – onshore wind We deliver enabling infrastructure for onshore wind projects, including earthworks, foundations, access roads, cable routes and substations. Often in remote or challenging locations, OCU provides pre‑enablement, specialist civils, electrical balance of plant and grid connections across the UK and ANZ. Grid energy infrastructure We deliver substation programs and associated grid infrastructure, including integrated work across OCU for the connection of renewable generation and storage. Our capabilities include platforms, foundations, cable routes, substations, electrical works and commissioning as part of wider energy transformation programs. Balance of plant and specialist civils We deliver the civil, electrical and mechanical balance of plant required for renewable generation, storage and private energy infrastructure. This includes earthworks, heavy foundations, platforms, access roads, drainage, cabling and equipment installation in complex, remote or environmentally sensitive locations.

Battery energy storage systems We deliver grid-connected battery energy storage infrastructure, including enabling works, specialist civils, electrical balance of plant, HV connections and commissioning. Our experience extends to multi-hundred-megawatt developments, helping clients add flexibility, resilience and storage capacity to increasingly renewable power systems. Marine and port infrastructure We deliver harbour infrastructure works, including berths, piers, coastal defences and associated access improvements. These capabilities support coastal and island communities while enabling ports to serve offshore wind, renewable energy and emerging low-carbon supply chains. These solutions can integrate renewable generation, battery storage, control systems and resilient power supplies, supporting energy security, operational flexibility and decarbonisation. Microgrids and private networks Our teams design, construct and commission microgrids and private HV networks for industrial, commercial and campus-style environments. pre-enablement and specialist pile-driving services for renewable energy developments. This in-house capability supports solar, wind and storage projects, improves control over early construction interfaces and strengthens OCU’s integrated delivery model. Foundations, piling and geotechnical works We provide geotechnical ground engineering,

Solar We support utility-scale solar developments through integrated civil, electrical and mechanical delivery. Our work includes site preparation, foundations, equipment installation, trenching, cabling, inverter platforms, substations, grid connections, testing and commissioning across the UK and ANZ. Grid stability facilities We deliver infrastructure works for grid stability facilities, including synchronous condensers. Our combined engineering, mechanical and electrical capabilities support projects that strengthen network resilience and enable the continued integration of renewable and other low‑carbon energy sources. Data centre energy infrastructure We deliver the power infrastructure required to enable new and expanded data centres. Our capabilities include HV grid connections, substations, private networks, underground cabling, backup‑power infrastructure, civil works, testing and commissioning, together with the co-ordination of associated utility and digital connections. Infrastructure for green hydrogen We deliver infrastructure works for green hydrogen production facilities, drawing on integrated engineering, mechanical and electrical capabilities from across the Group. This expertise supports the development of infrastructure that can contribute to the transition towards a lower‑carbon energy system.

Interconnector and offshore wind landfall infrastructure

We deliver the onshore infrastructure required to connect subsea electricity interconnectors and offshore wind generation to the electricity network. This includes cable landfalls, HDD crossings, onshore export and interconnector cable routes, converter stations, substations and grid connections, while avoiding offshore turbine and marine EPC risk.

Energy asset operations and maintenance

We provide planned and reactive maintenance across renewable generation, storage, private networks and connected energy infrastructure. Services include inspections, compliance testing, fault response, refurbishment, upgrades and asset optimisation, extending OCU’s involvement beyond construction into the operational life of the asset.

EV charging infrastructure We build the grid capacity and supporting

Hydroelectric schemes We provide end-to-end infrastructure delivery for hydroelectric schemes, including dam works, water intakes, pipeline routes, access infrastructure and powerhouse developments. Our experience in complex and remote environments supports the construction, expansion and renewal of conventional hydroelectric and pumped-storage assets. infrastructure required for electric vehicle charging across fleet depots, public transport facilities, retail destinations and on-street networks. Our services include connections, substations, switchgear, civils, cabling, foundations and the mechanical installation of charging equipment.

Heat networks We deliver heat network infrastructure and

associated mechanical engineering through our specialist capability. Our services support the installation of heat networks and connected energy infrastructure, helping clients develop efficient, lower-carbon heating solutions for communities, developments and major estates.
