Current

• cumulative gains and losses arising on the retranslation of the net assets of overseas subsidiaries from their functional currencies into sterling for consolidation purposes. Movements in the reserve reflect changes in foreign exchange rates during the year and do not represent realised gains or losses; and • foreign exchange gains and losses arising on the effective portion of net investment hedging instruments. Put option reserve The reserve arises from arrangements whereby holders of non-controlling interests have the right to require the Group to acquire their shares at a future date. The Group recognises a financial liability for the estimated redemption amount of the option. Changes relating to the liability that are recognised directly in equity are recorded within the put option reserve.
