RJ McLeod review

Overview RJ McLeod joined OCU Group in June 2024 as the largest acquisition in the Group’s history, strengthening our delivery of energy and civil engineering services across Scotland. With offices in Glasgow and Dingwall, RJ McLeod is known for its trusted local reputation, its legacy in infrastructure, and its integral role in delivering the backbone of energy transition schemes, particularly in remote and rural locations. Operating under the same respected name and leadership, RJ McLeod’s strong heritage and regional expertise are now enhanced by the Group’s broader capabilities, enabling the business to maintain its high standards while leveraging OCU’s scale and resources to drive further growth. With a leadership structure based in both northern and southern Scotland, and a highly experienced team of over 400, RJ McLeod supports the design and build of major energy infrastructure programs in some of the UK’s most challenging environments. The team brings a particular strength in safely delivering programs for onshore renewables, hydroelectric, and energy storage, as well as transport links, ports, and flood resilience assets. From highland hills to island harbours, RJ McLeod’s role in shaping Scotland’s energy and civil infrastructure makes it an essential part of the Group’s market-leading position in the UK energy transition. RJ McLeod is already working alongside OCU Energy on an expanding pipeline of collaborative projects, uniting energy-specific civil engineering with energy project and program expertise to deliver fully integrated solutions that harness the breadth of OCU’s capabilities.

Structure and operations RJ McLeod operates as a defined business unit within OCU Group and is structured with six experienced directors based across offices in Glasgow and Dingwall. This regional leadership model ensures local delivery, cultural continuity and a high degree of agility in supporting clients primarily across all of mainland Scotland, its islands and increasingly into England and Wales. Each project or program has a team, supported by Group Services, that includes QSET (Quality, Safety, Environmental and Training) professionals and backed by robust systems aligned with OCU Group’s operational standards. Future strategy and opportunities As Scotland increases its renewables generation capacity and transmission capability, RJ McLeod is well positioned to support the necessary infrastructure that underpins these programs. Scotland is forecast to develop an additional 20GW of onshore and offshore wind capacity by 2030, with turbine foundations access, grid connection and battery storage forming critical enablers. Hydro projects and programs remain a focus for expansion, particularly in remote grid‑edge locations. Additionally, as ports across the highlands and islands adapt to serve offshore wind and hydrogen supply chains, RJ McLeod’s marine capabilities will be in greater demand. We are already winning new work on grid reinforcements and substation upgrades through collaborative work with OCU Energy.

Robert van Beek Managing Director, RJ McLeod

In the past year, RJ McLeod has stepped confidently into the OCU Group, bringing 70 years of heritage. We are a key renewables partner, through our work within areas like wind farms, BESS, and synchronous condensers. Our engineering, especially in complex rural environments, together with OCU Energy’s capabilities, shapes a robust, low-carbon future across the UK.
